Sport
in the rhythm of nature: the marvellous climate - a mixture
of the Mediterranean and the Alpine - combined with Tolmin's
favourable location and natural environment offer an immense
number of possibilities for active holidays or short excursions.
The wild and beautiful Tolminska region is ideally suited
for hiking, cycling, riding, walks... The mountain air currents
make the region a paradise for parachutists and hang-gliders.
The Maya sports tourism centre
offers a range of activities on water and land, including
rafting, canyoning, canoeing, hydrospeed, mountain biking
and caving.
And let
us not forget one of the most popular sports on the River
Soča: fishing.
The total length of fishable waters along the course of the
Soča exceeds 145 kilometres. The crystal-clear river, home
to grayling and the famous marble trout, is much loved by
anglers. The Hotel Krn will be pleased to provide you with
information about water levels and can also supply fishing
permits (24 hours a day).
Tolmin
is also home to the up-to-date Brajda sports centre, which
as well as tennis courts has fine facilities for team training
(athletics stadium, football pitch, basketball and handball
court).
The Tolmin
region boasts many natural, cultural and historical sights
of interest. Among the most famous are the gorges of the Tolminka
and Zadla±čica rivers, the thermal spring, the Devil's Bridge,
Dante's Cave, a number of waterfalls (Brinta - 104 m, Gregorčič's
Falls - 88 m, Beri Falls above Poljubinj, etc.), and the reservoir
at Most na Soči, which is plied by a little steamer. The Church
of the Holy Spirit at Javorca, the German ossuary, Loče cemetery
and Kobarid Museum are mute witnesses to the First World War.
Above Tolmin, on 'Goat's Edge', stand the thousand-year-old
ruins of Tolmin Castle.
